Tyhrena Howerton is founder of Mara Moja Beauty. She has a B.S. in Biology from the University of California, Los Angeles, and acted as Student Advisor for UCLA’s New Student & Transition Program. 

Being in love with the versatility of Black hair her whole life, it was only right for her to begin her academic journey at UCLA with lavender and gray braids. She soon realized on top of stepping into a new world of increased academic rigor, living on her own, and adapting to a new social environment in a different city, getting the necessary products for her hair was going to be another element added to her plate. Inspired by the relentless measures she and other students took to get essential hair supplies, she started Mara Moja Beauty.

Mara Moja Beauty is a beauty vending company that believes all students deserve to be themselves unapologetically and have access to daily cultural essentials in the prestigious academic settings they earned a spot to be.
