Randy Shain

Randy Shain is the COO of Hilton Global Associates, a start-up background investigation firm he joined in October 2020.  

In 2015, Randy Shain founded One on One Mentors, LLC, an organization devoted to helping college students maximize and monetize their collegiate experience.  Currently mentoring 25 students and graduates on topics ranging from selecting a major to defining a career path to hard skills like interviewing, securing internships and jobs as well as on-the-job advice, Shain transforms the way students plan for their post-college future.  

Shain’s book, 173 Pages Every College Student Must Read, has proven to be extremely popular with both incoming and existing college students, as well as with their parents. 

Shain additionally has been an advisor to a number of small to medium-sized businesses, including Cinnamongirl Inc. and many others.  

As for his previous positions, Shain joined Blue Heron Research Partners full-time in July 2017 as the Managing Director of Operations, becoming COO in 2019 before leaving at the end of that year.  He helped create processes and systems that enabled Blue Heron more than double its sales and increase profits approximately ten-fold.  

Shain co-founded BackTrack Reports, Inc., an investigative due diligence firm specializing in examining hedge funds and their executives, in 1993.  He and his partner sold the company in 2004 to First Advantage. Shain stayed on as head of BackTrack, which grew into a company with 70-plus employees when he left at the end of 2016. 

Shain is also the author of the widely-acclaimed book Hedge Fund Due Diligence, Professional Tools to Investigate Hedge Fund Managers

Shain earned his bachelor’s in marketing with honors from Rutgers University in 1987, and was a member of the inaugural graduating class of the Rutgers Business School.
